Our Imam


Imam Al-Amin Abdullatif has been an activist, community organizer and teacher of Islam for over 40 years.
He has traveled extensively to places such as Saudi Arabia, Syria, Qatar, Ghana, Trinidad, United Kingdom, Sweden, Canada, Kuwait,  and many cities throughout the United States. Throughout his travels, he has addressed various audiences at universities, high schools, conference centers, masaajids, churches, arenas and professional buildings. He is an ardent promoter of Islam by way of example, giving da'wah, lecturing, teaching, and organizing Muslim communities and movements.


    • Took shahada in 1969.

    • Educated and trained in the Dar-ul-Islam School of Theology under Sheikh Yahya A. Kareem.

    • Completed course work and certification in Usul ad-Deen: Comparative Religion, Quranic Arabic and Tajweed in 1976.

    • Attended and organized the Imam Training Programs in 1987 in Plainfield, Indiana, USA and Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 1999 and 2000.

    • Earned certificates in Arabic, Usul al Fiqh, Aqeedah, Seerah, and Hadeeth under Sheikh Khalid Al-Halwani.

    • Was a chaplain in the New York Department of Corrections (1971-1993).

    • Was one of the early pioneers of the Islamic Dawah Project in the NYS Prison System.

    • Became one of the founders and former president of Majlis Ash-Shura (Islamic Leadership Council) of New York in 1990.

    • Is Imam of Masjid Allahu Akbar in Long Island, NY.

    • Is the Amir/Founder of Jamaat Iqaamatideen.
